Did You Say Colon Cleanse Martini? My Top 10 Recs for Detoxing Using My 10 Day Spring Cleanse
After having just completed this cleanse myself, these are my top recommendations:
1. Remember this quote when you want to go off the wagon – “We are living in a world today where lemonade is made from artificial flavors and furniture polish is made from real lemons.” – Alfred E. Newman
2. Ask your friends and family to support you. Tell them why doing a cleanse is important to you. Next thing you know, they will ask you to meet at a spa for a facial, for a walk or over for tea and fruit instead of wine and pizza! When you feel appreciated and loved, your sweet organs will smile too!
3. Have friends over instead of hibernating or it will be a long 10 days. My friend John came over and we had what he called a Colon Cleanse Martini. What is it? I made a “martini” with the juice of grapefruit, lemon slices, soda water and a dash of cayenne pepper. It made detoxing more fun! I also served steamed artichokes with olive oil dipping sauce that I made with fresh / dry garlic powder / rosemary / basil.
4. Look in the mirror every morning and remind yourself why you are important and why you are doing the cleanse. And tell yourself how fabulous you are 20 times, go ahead do it!
5. Make teas. Drink them warm or at room temperature (not cold)- your spleen will appreciate it! I made herbal teas in advance and drank 16 oz with lunch and 16 oz at dinner, and brought them to work in a thermos so I didn’t have to deal with preparing them at work. Fennel is a good cleansing tea that is mild. If you ever have any side-effects from drinking the tea, stop! Herbal teas may be too harsh if you have a busy lifestyle and don’t have enough time to unwind and relax. Use room temperature distilled water with fresh lemon instead.
6. If you drink caffeine, wean yourself off before starting this cleanse to avoid a withdrawal headache. To avoid a withdrawal headache, over a few days, take one tablespoon of green tea every hour and then every few hours until you are off!
7. Add fresh lime, lemon, orange, mint, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger to fruit and teas. Use alot of organic fresh or dry spices – ginger, curry, rosemary, oregano, mint, cayenne pepper and garlic. One of my favorite spices is Indian Curry (by Frontier) which has a blend of turmeric, coriander, cumin, lemon peel, black pepper, dried lemon, cardamon, cinnamon, garlic and red pepper. You’ll be surprised at how good spices make your food taste once your tongue adjusts to no coffee, sugar, artificial sweeteners and processed foods!
8. Don’t skip meals because your busy or you want to lose extra weight. The weight will come off and you will sustain your energy. Avoiding meals will stress out your adrenals causing stress in your body – counteracting the purpose of a cleanse. It will also cause you to crave (even more) what your friend next to you is eating.
9. Use organic cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. And buy lots of avocados – they made me not miss goat cheese! You can be liberal with these healthy fats.
10. If your life is very busy and stressful, and you feel exhausted on this cleanse after 3 days, consider adding clean proteins to your meals such as fish (halibut, haddock, wild salmon, sea bass) and organic chicken / turkey.

Can I have mine shaken not stirred? I love this idea, I find cutting out the wine the hardest part. Thank you!
Being a new blogger, I would like to tell you that you have given me much knowledge about it. Thanks for everything.
